When you hear someone say “Paros Town” or Chora, he or she is referring to Parikia. In Cyclades, as usually there is one capital and several villages, local residents call it Chora or Town.
Of course, Paros Town features the main port and it is the commercial center of the island. If you are visiting Paros Island for the first time, it is a good choice to stay in Paros Town. Due to the fact that everything is nearby, you will enjoy a pleasant vacation. Additionally, most of the well-known Paros beaches are close to the center of Paros Town. Livadia beach is situated within walking distance however, to reach Martselo, Krios beach or Parasporos beach, you will need one of our cars. Just for your information, those beaches are well organized. Therefore, you will find sunbeds, umbrellas and beach bar on each one.
Attractions
In the center of Paros Town, just few steps away from the port, there is one of the most important attractions of Cyclades. We are referring to Panagia Ekatontapiliani church. This is one of the oldest churches in Greece, as the first structure was built in 4th century. Additionally, a myth surrounds this attraction. The name of the church, ekato = one hundred and pilia = gates, means “the church with hundred gates”. This includes doors and windows yet, there are 99 of them which can be seeing. According to the myth, the last one will be revealed when a secret door in Agia Sofia will be open.
Another iconic attraction in Paros Town is the Frankish Castle. Today, only the main wall preserves and it is impressive due to the fact that it is built from remains of ancient temples.
About 50 meters away from Frankish Castle, you will find Agios Konstantinos church. Due to its architecture, it is one of the most picturesque churches in Paros Town. Here as well, few ruins from ancient temples were used in construction. From here you will be able to admire amazing sunset view.
